Xfinity WiFi only error message
New to Roku so this just pisses me off. Getting rid of our $400 month Comcast/Xfinity anchor
and was gifted 3 roku while with xfinity it worked pretty dang good but this is part of the big bug out with Comcast and we hooked up with local power company fiber wifi, a lot faster and local.
Just got back from cancelling xfinity wifi and Lordy mercy roku gives us the big FU with this “ the Roku are a partner with Xfinity and will not work but with xfinity wifi only.
We do not want Xfinity.

Re: Xfinity WiFi only error message
I am sure you can get your Roku devices to work with your new internet provider. Just need to get your router (network) setup properly to work with your Roku devices. (Roku devices will work with just about any properly configured internet service provider).
What is your ISP (internet service provider), your router model number, and your Roku model numbers? (the Roku model numbers can be found under Settings/System/About).
With the above info, can probably give you more detailed info re:setup.
Until then, make sure your new router has the 2.4ghz band enabled. Then perform a network connection reset on your Roku device. (Settings/System/Advanced System Settings/Network Connection Reset/Reset Connection).
Just another Roku user... I am not a Roku employee.

Re: Xfinity WiFi only error message
I moved from Xfinity to Fiber about a year ago, so I have to say: Um... What???
Switching ISPs was a complete non-event for Roku. I was paying Xfinity more like $70, So I assume you were getting TV, home phone, cell phones, air conditioning??, and maybe a car???? through Xfinity, so obviously some of that stuff is going to change, but Roku doesn't care about the brand of internet service.
Of course, if you used the Xfinity App on Roku, obviously you'll be stopping that. Any TV-anywhere apps will also no longer be useful unless you have some cable-replacement service you can link them with. Those are the only things I can think of that could get your Roku partially entangled with your Xfinity service.

Re: Xfinity WiFi only error message
@ShovelheadI'd agree with the others..data is data regardless of the source..WiFi radios don't know the difference from one provider to another. Most people tend to 'rent' equipment from a provider rather than purchase their own and to make matters worse, have no idea how to adjust router settings. That said, if you install WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar for iPhone, you'll be able to see how many others are using the same channel/band then log into the router (if you know how) and disable the 'auto' channel selection feature and chose a channel with less congestion. I've had AT&T, Xfinity and a couple of other services but rely on my OWN modem and router and as a result, get 20% faster speeds, have total control with router settings and SAVE money. Service provider equipment is low quality and lacks the security you'd have if you get your own
