I have 4 Roku Express devices in my house that I've been using with no problems for the past 2 years. I just bought another one brand new for a new tv and it won't connect to my internet, and I can't get past the network search menu to access the roku's settings.
Initially it was able to find my network, and I entered the password. Then it seemed to attempt to connect, only to show me the "Choose your network" menu, with no networks to choose from. I cannot get past this menu! I've restarted the Roku, my router, and all the other Rokus and my phone connect fine, it's only this new one that has a problem. What do I do to fix it and get steaming?
What is the model number of your non-working Roku Express?
If this device is not seeing any networks at all, I would try plugging it into a power adapter at the wall (any cell phone charging adapter 5volt, 1amp) and then performing a Factory Reset on the device. (press and hold Reset button for 30+ seconds.
The above will at least give you a good starting point to begin the setup process again.
Model number 3960X
I tried the factory reset, and it did the same thing as previously. In my frustration I forgot to mention that the first time I tried, it was able to connect to the internet, and I got the screen message that it needed to update and then it would automatically restart. After I press OK on the remote, and it seemingly starts to download updates, is when things go south. It ultimately says it cannot connect and then I'm stuck on the Choose Network menu again. This time I got two error codes at different times, error 005 and 003. So even a factory reset did not fix it. Do I maybe have a lemon of a Roku? Or is there more I can try?
@Michelle770The most common connectivity issue is channel congestion so I'd suggest you install WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar if you use an iPhone. Once installed, tap the app and view how many others in the nearby area are using the same channel/band as you then log into the router and change to one that's less congested. Those who use service provider equipment which chooses channels with the default auto-select setting tend to suffer the most as a result. Hope that helps
Roku error codes 003 and 005 are kind of a combination of network and Roku update server errors. (basically, Roku is having an issue with how you are trying to connect to the server or is unable to determine 'how' to connect you to the update server).
If you have a mobile hotspot available to you, see if you can proceed through the setup successfully that way.
