Wi-Fi & connectivity

I am having problems with my stick.  I get this Not Connected message.  I have an older TV so I got an extender so I could connect to the HDMI port.  The connection is loose and I was wondering if that is the reason.

I can see the homepage on my TV  but I can't access anything such as settings to see if it actually is a problem with my wifi.  Does anyone have any suggestions how I can solve this or at least troubleshoot.

What's the model number of your stick?  Is it one that uses that has the Wi-Fi receiver embedded in the USB cable?  If so, the remote won't work and it will never connect to your Wi-Fi without that cable.
