Connection not working in dorm

Jump to solution

I opened my roku and plugged it in at my dorm. It will not connect to the wifi. I checked the wifi in my entire room and I have full bars everywhere on every other device. The roku will not connect. It may show up the name of the wifi router, but it doesn’t have enough connection to work.  I followed each video for support on the website already and none worked.

Hi, @sirgrace

Welcome to the Roku Community.

We see that you're having trouble connecting your Roku device with the Dorm network, and we'd be happy to help. Kindly follow the steps below to successfully connect your Roku device to the dorm network.

Initiate the Connection

Open the Settings menu on your Roku device to initiate the connection.

  1. Press Home on your Roku remote
  2. Scroll and select Settings
  3. Select Network
  4. Select Set up connection
  5. Select Wireless
  6. From the list of available networks, choose the wireless network for the hotel or college dorm. If you do not see the network, select Scan again to see all networks.
  7. After your Roku device connects to the network, select I am at a hotel or college dorm.

Authenticate the Connection

After the connection is initiated, the remaining steps will appear on the television screen. Complete these steps on your computer or smartphone.

  • Note: You have several minutes to authenticate. If the network setup times out, select Try again to initiate the connection again.

After the connection is authenticated, your Roku device will return to the Network menu. The Network name should match the network for the hotel or college dorm, and the Status should say Connected.

For more information, kindly visit this support article on How to use Hotel and Dorm Connect to connect to the internet

We hope this works, and let us know if you have further concerns or inquries.

Best wishes,
Kash

Hi - This is not the issue. I cannot connect to anything because each says “Low wireless signal.” This, proven by other technology and by moving the roku around the entire room (where other technology continues to work) shows that it is not the router but the roku.

I have moved it, unplugged all other technology, and restarted it.

It will not connect.

@sirgraceIn nearly ALL cases connectivity issues are due to channel congestion so I'd recommend you install WiFi Analyzer for Android or if you have an iPhone, hunt for something similar. Once installed, the app will show you other users in the neighborhood and their channel selection. I'm willing to bet many are using the same one as yours, so log into the router and switch channels to one that's less congested. In case you're not aware the 2.4 gHz band is slower but has greater range, but 5 gHz is the most popular..Bandwidth selections can improve as well so if you use 2.4 gHz use 20; if 5 gHz use 80. Best of success regardless
