Just an update that this problem persists and it is related to the Samsung remote commands. If I turn on the TV using its Samsung remote, or the Verizon remote which is set up to emulate the Samsung power commands, and later switch sources from cable to Roku, then Roku is always in the middle of playing the first thing on my Plex "Recently Added in Movies" menu. If I turn the TV on using the switch on the TV, this does not happen; switching to Roku goes to the Home menu.
I have moved Plex out of the first position on the Home menu to see if that has any effect. Will update after some experience.
Just an update that it doesn't seem to matter which channel is in the first position on the Roku home screen: after turning on my Samsung TV via remote, when I later switch to Roku input whatever channel is in the first position is in the middle of playing something.
I've tried with Plex, Netflix and Roku Channel in the first position. This behavior happens with all of them. At the same time it powers the TV on, the remote and/or the TV is sending a signal to Roku to start playing.
I would like to disable this, if possible. Suggestions are welcome.
Unfortunately, overlapping IR codes has been an issue going back at least 50 years. It’s surprising to see this on a Samsung though, since their must be millions of those and I haven’t heard of this before.
Since the Ultra comes with a Wi-Fi remote, you might try covering the IR window. (Or putting the entire Ultra in a box or behind something.)
