Sound with no picture On my onn./roku television(also known as TV) set/device/appliance🙄

Ok, I will go through, step by step, and tell you exactly what happened.

Because I couldn’t find my remote, and was heading out the door to go to work, I used the one button found on the bottom left of the TV.(onn. 53” bough maybe 6 weeks ago brand new from walmart)

I pressed the button, hoping that it was an on/off or power button. But it’s 2024, and nothing can be that simple. I came to see that it appeared to be a button that would cycle through inputs(or sources)

It listed each of the normal inputs as usual(hdmi 1/2/3, live tv etc) but there were 2 different options i’ve never seen on another menu- Close⬅️(it’s an arrow, i’d assume indicating “back”. The other is “Turn off TV” with a little photo of what power buttons look like.

So, I cycled through until landing on “Turn off TV”.  After maybe 5-10 seconds, I was relieved to see my TV turn off……Until i realized i was still hearing it!

I waited…and waited….until i realized it wasn’t turning off(the sound i mean)

I hit the button again…cycled to turn off TV again and waited. No difference.

I figured i’d have to hold the button….so i cycled through again to turn off tv and then i held the one button down until the tv did turn off.

Thank god, I thought. I just got home, and turn my tv on….And i’m hearing sound with no picture. Why is this even possible? I’ve seen nothing indicating that this is some kind of option or setting, but that’s hard to believe!

I can go to the stupid roku smart tv home screen….and yes, i see it as usual, perfectly normal!

So it’s clearly not a problem with the screen being broken or something. I can view the channel guide, go through settings etc

I googled this problem, and it appears that quite a few ppl have had this problem…The advice that google ai gives is to check out auto power saving modes, and something about “CEC”

I located both of those options and 🤷‍♂️ doesn’t seem to be any possible option that would cause this. However, i did turn off all power saving options. But it doesn’t do anything.

I’ve also just now realized that when I do “change the channel”, nothing changes.

To be exact- I bring up the channel menu, and Scroll to a different channel, select that channel as if i would to watch that channel….the screen reacts normally, showing the channel i selected, along with the name of the program currently on….Except that’s the only thing on the screen; and the audio i’m hearing does not change to the new channel.

Not sure if it’s encouraging that the menu still works or not. This is the perfect example of why the whole roku business model is just silly.(I mean forcing ppl who buy these tvs to use roku. When you made the stick to plug into the USB A slot, it was a wonderful product! Keep the main thing the main thing! Now you’ve gone way too far)

This TV clearly still works….picture when seeing the menu is perfectly fine

Ok well one development- When i went back to the menu, something popped up saying “there is no network connection”

So i went to settings- network, and “about” and it’s saying i’m connected and signal strength is excellent! lol

Sooo i then clicked “check connection” and it checked it and same thing- Excellent signal strength lol 🙄

Re: Sound with no picture On my onn./roku television(also known as TV) set/device/appliance🙄

Ok for anyone experiencing this problem; dunno if i mentioned the tv i have is an “onn.” tv with built in roku?(don’t even know wtf roku really is in this instance🙄

And they’ve far better customer service….Heres what you do-

Unplug the tv. Then while the tv is unplugged, hold the button that is located on the bottom left of the tv(when looking at the screen) for 30 seconds.

Plug it back in and when i turned it on, it worked.

Strange af if ya ask me! It’s certainly a new development that you can have a device unplugged and hold a button. Like wtf man, can’t they just leave **bleep** that works alone?!
