Roku streaming device is continually cycling my TV off an on.

I purchased a Roku Express 4K+ streaming device in September 2024.  Today it has gotten stuck in a cycle of turning off and on.  I have done all of the following:

pushed the reset;

unplugged the device for a few minutes;

unplugged the TV;

changed the batteries in the remote.

I have checked, the TV functions properly, independent of the Roku device.

I cannot access any setting on the streaming screen because it shuts off the TV immediately after the home screen displays on the TV.  So I cannot figure out how to stop this incessant powering off and on.

This is not something I would expect after only 4 months of use.

Re: Roku streaming device is continually cycling my TV off an on.

Welcome, @bouce13.

Happy to have you with us in the Roku Community!

This issue you're experiencing can be pretty frustrating, and we completely understand that. We're here to help you sort this thing out and get you back up and running.

Here are a few quick fixes you might try. Let me walk you through the steps.

  • To further isolate the issue, if the problem lies within the TV or through the Roku device, try connecting your Roku to a different TV and observe if the issue persists.
  • Try switching to a high-speed HDMI Cable. This cable establishes a secure connection from your Roku to the TV, so changing it might make a difference.
  • Connect to a different HDMI port. HDMI ports can also cause glitches in the device's connection to the TV. Try connecting it to a different HDMI port from the TV and see if the issue will not persist.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Please get back to us if you need more help.

Best of luck,
Emman

Emman

Thank you for your response.

I tried a different port and another TV, no changes.  I am using the cable provided with the device.

At one point I was able to get into the settings, but the screen then went into a crazy flickering between screens.

What next?

Thanks for keeping us posted, @bouce13!

Do you have an extra high-speed HDMI cable that we can try? We would recommend switching to a different one to see if that'll do the trick.

Let us know what you find out.

Thanks,
Emman
