yes the menu and every channel was dim using the roku. Not dim watching dvd or regular tv. Brightness setting on tv did not affect viewing on roku.

Turn on roku means go to tv display hdmi, blue screen no data, hit home button on roku, then roku menu appears. Not actually powering off.

@rodercam  Ok so what you mean is your press the power button on your Roku remote. That turns on your TV. But you see a blank screen till you press the home button on your Roku remote. That is normal. Just disable the bandwidth saver and look under power settings. Some Roku devices have a power setting. So might your TV. Certain TV's will power down ports after a certain about of time elapses with no input. Your Roku is going to sleep until you wake it up. Happens on my TV too. No biggie

@rodercam-

Roku operating system version 10.5 added added a new "Power" item in the "Settings > System" menu for some of the latest Roku devices. The new "Auto power savings" item there will put your Roku device into a low power standby condition after a period of inactivity, such as when your tv has been turned off for a while.

Pressing a Roku control key, like the Roku Home key, on your Roku remote (not Power, Volume, or Mute which act on the TV, not the Roku) should bring the Roku out of standby and back to full operation. Pulling the power for a few seconds to restart the Roku will restore full operation as well.

If you have a "Settings > System > Power" menu item, deactivating any power saving options you find under "Auto power savings" will prevent your Roku from going into standby in the first place.
