My camera won’t record video anymore only takes photos

Jump to solution
  • My camera is only taking photos and not recording video. The images even say "12s", but it's a still frame every time. Not sure how to fix this as i've reset my camera (physically and in the app) with no luck. The camera is getting signal as I can watch the feed live.

Hi Community users,

Greetings from the Roku Community!

We appreciate you bringing to our attention that your Roku cameras only take photos and do not video record events. We understand how frustrating this limitation can be, especially when it comes to ensuring the safety and security of your home. No worries; we are here to help.

Before we proceed, please check your Roku account to ensure that you have an active subscription to Roku Smart Home. Without an active subscription, your cameras will not record events. For more details about Roku Smart Home subscription please visit our Roku support article: How to sign up for and manage a Roku Smart Home Subscription for cameras & doorbells

If you have confirmed that you have an active subscription to Roku Smart Home and still the cameras are not recording, kindly follow the steps below:

Log out to the Roku Smart Home app

  1. Tap account in the bottom left corner of the smart home mobile app.
  2. Tap "Sign Out" at the bottom
  3. Tap "Use different Roku account" at the bottom of the sign-in page
Note: You can use the same Roku account that showed up on the sign-in page. You just have to enter the email/password manually for a full refresh.
  4. Follow the rest of the sign-in steps.
  5. After logging back in, leave the smart home app/lock the phone, trigger motion on the camera, and see if you will get an event recording now. (event/notification may take up to a minute to come through)

If the issue persists, kindly provide us with the following:

  • Device Mac ID
  • Firmware Version
  • Log ID:  (pull up your Roku Smart Home app home page > select Account > Roku Support > Submit a Log)
  • Troubleshooting steps taken

We look forward to your response.

Thanks,
Riamie

Consistently I see my camera misses re recording  events . I have no rules set up . Continuous recording . All ppl cars motion , pets . Frequently I will even leave my house and it doesn’t get recorded . Cars come in & it’s not there or half of it is when they leave . I had 2 men roaming in my yard , I saw on live stream and they were not recorded . So I got no notice & would not have known if I didn’t check the stream .  This is happening to much . No clue why .
