Re: Trying to convert an old television to Roku capability

Plugged in correctly. Both channels three and four give no results. You have been very patient & generous with your time. I just haven’t got a clue…

Apologies, I couldn’t figure out how to edit the photo positions

Re: Trying to convert an old television to Roku capability

Is the converter plugged into a working power source?  I couldn’t tell from the pictures.  And is it set for NTSC?

@shirleywoff

No worries.  Looks like everything hooked up correctly.  Now that it is on Video, try unplugging the Roku device from wall power for a few seconds and then plugging it back in.  See if something comes on screen.

You would not be the first one to receive a defective device from Amazon, or perhaps this particular converter just does not want to work with your Roku.  From its specs, it should work though.

Maybe it is just the image, but do you have the converter powered?  There should be a little micro-usb power cable coming off the side of it and I am unable to make that out in your image.

Edit: Seeing that @Strega is also asking about the power.  I think this may be the issue.

Re: Trying to convert an old television to Roku capability

It was not powered. But if I use the ROKU usb cable, the ROKU shuts off. I’m clearly doing something wrong….05AA83CA-0ACE-4C43-8F47-5C2D01DE6B87.jpeg13822D6F-8229-42D5-B589-3846DD3C85D8.jpeg

Both devices need to be powered.

Re: Trying to convert an old television to Roku capability

@shirleywoff

You need to have all these things plugged in.

1. The converter came with a micro USB power cable.  Plug this into an outlet.

2. The Roku also came with a micro USB power adapter. Plug this into an outlet.

3. Of course, plug your TV into an outlet.

You may need another outlet or a power strip for all these plugs. 🙂

Re: Trying to convert an old television to Roku capability

Unfortunately, that HDMI converter ships without an AC adapter and says that you must supply power.  (That’s how they sell it for $15 instead of around $20.)  Hopefully you have something laying around – even a laptop could be used for testing.
