No WIFI after resets and restarts of router and Roku -- no error codes received

Jump to solution

I've read through the threads but nothing has worked for me, and no one has mentioned that they have a problem similar to mine.

There's "no connection," so I go to network connection, choose wifi and then either of my two connections.  I hit enter, but this only takes me back to searching again for available networks.  Even more mysterious, I can't do a factory reset.  I type in the code and hit enter.  Nothing moves.  I'm prompted aqain to enter the code I've already entered.

The TV is already on the network, and I can stream.  Roku works on my other TV and PCs.

What have I done trying to fix it?  I spent my evening (and half the night) multiple times restarting Roku, restarting the router, trying to reset the system and the settings.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi @wfjack

Thanks for taking part here in the Roku Community!

I understand that you’re experiencing a connection issue, and I’m here to assist you.

Please start by updating your device. To do this, press Home, then navigate to Settings > System > Software Update, and select "Check Now." After updating, try connecting your Roku to a mobile hotspot. If it works, the issue may be with your Wi-Fi. In that case, please contact your Internet Service Provider for further assistance.

Please keep us posted on what you find out.

Thanks,

Yup, the problem is in the remote's "OK" button.  An older remote reconnected me.  Thank you for your suggestions.

@wfjackThe MOST prevalent issue with connectivity is channel congestion. I'd recommend you install WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar if you own an iPhone. Once installed, open the app and see how many others are using the same channel/band as you then log into the router and switch to a channel/band with less congestion. If you use service provider modem/router, by default, the channels are being selected with the 'auto' setting so you'll want to disable that and manually choose the channels. Hope that helps

Hi -  Thanks for your suggestion.  I'm unable to do a software update because when I go the the correct spot and hit "OK", I'm bounced back; nothing happens.  It's the same behavior I get when I try to connect to wifi, reset my network, or reset the unit.

Hi - Thanks for your suggestions.  The network traffic is minimal and everything else works.  The TV in question is already on wifi and is functioning.  In addition, I have ROKU running on a second TV, with no problems.  I turned it off (as well as everything else on my network) but still receive the same result.  I switched out my two PCs and their two ROKU kits.  The remote in question won't work on either TV, but the other remote works on both.

Could the problem be in the remote?  Well, I checked, and sometimes the OK button does strange things, such as bouncing backwards when selecting a youtube video. I bought the Pro in October 2024 so it's still in warranty, but the hassle (including a trip to a post office) and expense involved don't make it worth my while to go through the process. I'm 80 years old with lousy vision.  I need the backlit screen and voice properties of the Pro.  Maybe I simply need to buy another one and hope for the best?

I am having the same issue.  No connectivity to Roku.  Internet connection is excellent with no internet issues, reset everything and restarted system.  Still not working

You can’t do this when Rokus is literally saying there’s no Wi-Fi when there IS Wi-Fi working perfectly fine but Roku is the only thing that is not

So, it's not just me then? Did they happen to do an update yesterday that could have caused this? I'm not having any problems with my remote that I am aware of, and I don't have a second one to test. I have done the following:

1) Restarted a zillon times

2) Had the router restarted (By my neighbours)

3) Unplugged the Roku and plugged it back in.

4) Connected to my personal hotspot through my phone, which connected just fine, but then wouldn't connect to my home network once I tried to switch back

It's finding the network, says the signal is good and nothing has changed, but it won't connect. Everything else in the house that uses internet is working just fine.

Any other suggestions? This is really frustrating.

@Brekke

Your issue sounds more related to your router/network setup since you are able to connect to the mobile hotspot.

Since it sees your network but won't connect to it, I would look at the password settings in your router and also try changing the password to exclude and special characters. (just use numbers and letters).

If you are using a wifi6 router, verify that you have WPA2 enabled under your Security settings. (ie. set it to WPA2/WPA3 Personal).

Feel free to post back with your Roku model number (found in Settings/System/About) as well as your router model number and ISP (internet service provider).
