Roku setup

Trying to start up a new Roku on a two-year-old Sony Bravia tv with a Sony 5.1 AV unit.  Spectrum cable box worked fine handling TV, AV unit and Xbox via the ARC/ERC cable connections.

Alas the Roku can find the tv speakers and not the AV unit.  After 3 hours of research and troubleshooting you are my last resort.
