The same thing is happening to me. I use private listening for Youtube and it has been working, that is, until I believe it was the 11/13 Roku update. Since then, it disconnects constantly and this is so frustrating. It is not my internet. I’ve trie private listening on Hulu—not perfect but better results. The one thing I will say to Roku is if the issue suddenly starts after your update, chances are that your update might be the issue. I’m so feeling like I want to switch back to Firestick, because the constant troubleshooting and having to start/stop/start private listening is exhausting, that I’m done with this.
I have the same issue. I want to listen to the tv through iphone app and AirPods. I read a helpful hint to set up sound first and then go the channel. It works great with other apps like Hulu, Netflix and Amazon, but it will NOT work with Youtube Tv. I keep getting error message about a problem with frequent buffering.
What's the deal with Youtube TV? Love to know too.
Turning off cellular data for the Roku app fixed the issue for me (found on another thread).
In my case, the problems started after automatic iOS updates to v14, so maybe apple changed some default setting that enabled cellular data for the Roku app.
I am having the same issue. I have even reset my router and it still doesn't work. It worked for awhile and then it went back to cutting out even with more resets of my router.
Specs: Roku 32" Phillips TV. using the Roku app on an Iphone SE software version 14.2
I am partially deaf so I like to watch using my bose headphones for way better sound than the TV.
thank you.
Getting a good wifi signal can be tricky. It depends on the quality of your router and distance to it as well as interference with neighbors on the same channel. If you have a computer or android phone you can find a free wifi analyzer app that will show the conflicts. I think with an iphone you might have to pay for an app - but even without one you could try switching channels on the router to see if any work better.
Thanks. It’s NOT the Wi-Fi. It’s the app.

Mine works nicely after setting the wifi to the best channels. Probably the same app as yours, running on an iphone 7.
How do you set the channels? Mine was channel 1 or 6, with 66 for internet speed, until I connected my hotspot when the internet, spectrum, had an outage. Once I connected back to my router the speed is no higher than 20, the channel changed to 46 and every wifi connection check reduces speed from 20 to 1 and then back up gradually to 20 like it's a fricking volume control. Multiple buffering issues, multiple exit to check connection error messages. It's unwatchable. Roku 24 inch tv.
And don't even get me going on trying to counter the roku tv problem with the roku streaming stick and the sudden out of nowhere error message USB tv port cannot power this device get an adapter. This big ass box message that shuts down the tv. I'm at my wits end.
Different routers have different way to set the channel and width - usually somewhere in their web interface. If both your router and roku device support the 5Ghz channels, it may help to put the roku on 5Ghz and the phone on a 2.4Ghz channel (using different SSIDs). Wifi radios are half-duplex so it requires a very good connection for the device and router to handle receiving the video streaming content and at the same time sending back the audio to a different device. Some of the newer routers with MU-MIMO technology may be better at maintaining good data rates to multiple devices without fiddling with them.
