AirPlay Code Fails - HomeKit Setup fails

I just bought a new Roku Express 4K and nothing could connect to it. Couldn't see it on the network at all in AirPlay, HomeKit, or Roku App. After several hours it finally showed up in the app and AirPlay. Still cannot connect it to HomeKit. AirPlay asks for a code that doesn't work. Tried it on several iOS and macOS devices all same problem - just prompts for the code over and over again without connecting. Tried "First time" "Every time" and "Password" modes and they all fail the same way.

Many posts on these boards refer to the same problem and somebody from the Roku team has unhelpfully linked to the "How to connect to AirPlay and HomeKit" support article then marked it as solved without solving the problem. I have followed the directions in the support article. It does not address this issue.

Thanks for letting us know about your issue with the Airplay feature. We're happy to help, but we need more information to investigate this thoroughly. Can you please provide the following information below?

  •  Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About)
  • Tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue arise, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times, and provide us with this ID)
  • Could you tell us the make & model of your phone and iOS version?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you taken so far?

Once we have this information, we will be able to pass it along to our appropriate Roku team for further investigation.

iPhone 15, iOS 18.1
MacBook Pro 2018, macOS 15.0.1
Mac Mini 2023, macOS 14.6.1
(All of the above devices were tested using AirPlay and all exhibit the same behaviour)

Troubleshooting steps taken (tested after each step):

  • Rebooted all home network gear.
  • Disabled IPv6 in secret menu.
  • Factory reset of Roku
  • Manually checked for software updates for Roku
  • Disabled 5GHz radio on router
  • Returned Roku to the store and exchange for another of the same model, tried all of the above again.
