Obsolete and current Roku could care less

I am a pioneer customer of Roku. I was there when they were opening the doors.
I did not get the connection free with a TV,  I had to buy it.

I am not a wealthy man. Because I gave it away.
I started a magazine and it reached national circulation. I gave it to the national collecting club because they were in trouble.
Any list  of the top art toolmakers in the world would have to include me because I started it. Over 1/2 of any list would be my former students.

I was a volunteer fireman and emt for a decade risking my life for my neighbors for free.
I have sat on the boards of directors of most community entities.  for free
I teach woodworking and toolmaking to about 1/4 million people a day. They call me Gandalf behind my back.

The Roku unit I have is obsolete now. They will not send me upgraded programing. They will let me log into my account because its always been there. But they will not talk to me on customer service.
Currently the unit shuts completely off every night.
It must be unplugged and reloaded to work again.
They didn't include the old units in the latest programming so the commercials are 4 times louder than the shows.

I am sure the idea is to force me to buy a new unit, just like the greedweasels at Apple are famous for.

If they weren't such arrogant little snots I would have told them the current Roku channel lineup is better than Netflix and Amazon put together,

Re: Obsolete and current Roku could care less

Exactly what old model do you have? There is a limit to how long hardware can be supported. Roku uses 3rd party chipsets, and if that company stops supporting their chipsets, Roku can't really do much to fix some issues, or add features. Also, as Roku drops support for older models, developers will often drop support, too. That is out of Roku's hands. When Roku dropped support for the Roku 4, Disney immediately yanked Hulu and Disney+ from those models. Apple never made the Apple TV+ app available for the Roku 4, even though it was still under support, but was no longer for sale.

Yeah and I was buying VCRs when they cost $1500.  (Nearly $6000 in inflation-adjusted dollars.)  And Windows 11 won’t run on my Altair 8800.

But I had a lot of fun with these gadgets in their day.

Banned but back. Because why not?
