Re: m4a AAC from iTunes Purchases not playing

Was there ever an update to make the Roku play video files with AAC audio?
None of my mkv or mp4 video files that have AAC audio will play sound when I watch them. either stereo or 5.1. I play my videos through the plex app with forced direct and direct streaming on. Anything with AAC audio is silent.

Yes, by specifying a StreamFormat of "es.aac-adts".

That's for AAC audio streams (files?). As far as I know, Roku has always played videos with AAC audio streams. This thread brought back from the dead had to do with playing AAC files and had nothing to do with videos.

I misread the question (or rather, I was going by what the thread title said). Yes, AAC audio should play in videos, if it's encoded in a way compatible with what the Roku expects, e.g. 44.1 Khz or 48 Khz, 16-bit, 32-256 Kbps, 2 channels. (https://github.com/rokudev/docs/blob/master/develop/specifications/audio-video-support.md#supported-...) You can use a program like mediainfo to find out how the audio in your videos is encoded.
