Ultra 4850X H264 Performance

Jump to solution

I recently purchased the new Ultra 4850X hearing it was a significant performance upgrade over my previous Ultra LT 4662X.

The Ultra LT has performed extremely well for all 1080p movies on my Jellyfin server but struggled with 4k.  As it turns out, the new Ultra actually struggles to play all of my H264 movies and also lacks in performance on 4k movies.

I have reset the unit, made sure its up to date, disabled the network throttling, and optimized any setting that seem relevant and nothing has improved the performance.

Has anyone else experienced the same?  Are there settings I'm missing?

Thanks for the reply, I did not realize I was posting in this forum on the mobile version.

For anyone that comes across this, the issue was actually Jellyfin.  I did not open a support ticket with them to address it since I just switched to Plex.  Everything is running at peak performance for all qualities.

You have posted this on the developers side of the forum, and likely not where you would get any assistance.

I will say that my 4800 has no issues with H.264 1080 or H.265 4K video rips. I am assuming you are using either Roku Media Player, or the Jellyfin app. If the former, just be aware that Roku hasn't updated anything in RMP for video playback for at least four years, and has a number of issues with some content. If it's the Jellyfin app, then perhaps they have not updated their app to best perform on the latest hardware. Starting with the Ultra 4800, Roku has moved to a new hardware platform, which in theory performs much better than the previous versions. My 4800 absolutely performs better than my older 4640 and 4670.
