Roku channel hang

Has anyone noticed that if your channel has a bug or hangs, that hitting the "home" button on the remote sends the screen back to the Roku main channel list BUT leaves your channel in limbo. Can't do anything with it until you reset the box by pulling the power cord. Sounds like Windows, reboot. Can't the main controller kill the channel when the "home" button is selected ?

Yep, I see this quite often. It seems to be especially prominent when the crash leaves a roAudioPlayer object hanging around. I keep my development box plugged into a switched power strip so I can power-cycle it easily when this happens.

Re: Roku channel hang

Yeah, me too. Been there more times than I'd like to admit. I just discovered the remote control reboot sequence (5 x Home, Up, 2 x Rew, 2 x FF) so I don't have to get up to reboot it.

The argument could be made that if a channel is well written and thoroughly tested, end users will rarely see this behavior. But I certainly agree that channels should be better sandboxed and not allowed to hang the entire box so easily.

Re: Roku channel hang

We agree that the "Home" button should "kill" the app, and we've added that feature in an upcoming release.
