One hour rebuffering
Could someone explain why the Roku starts rebuffering after one hour. It appears that this only occurs on videos NOT encoded at 29 fps. But if the Roku can handle it for an hour why not for the remainder of the film ? It is a pain for a user to reencode his entire library because of this !

Re: One hour rebuffering
This issue has been know for many months. As far as I know, no one at Roku has ever responded why it happens or if it will ever be fixed. If you look at the traffic going to the box, it keeps diminishing until the data rate is not sufficient for the required bit rate, therefore the buffering.

Re: One hour rebuffering
Actually some of the other threads talk about frame rate encoding as a potential problem.
Specifically, if you use 24fps or 30fps as the destination frame rate, when the source
material is 23.9?fps or 29.9?fps, the Roku gets confused.
Anyway, it's worth a checking your video encoding techniques, and if possible, use the
exact same frames per second as the the source.

I have the same issue. I really don't want to queue up my entire libray for reencoding 😞 Does anyone think this will be resolved eventually or had any luck with the WD Live plus box

First, try re-encoding a single video to the exact same frame rate as the source.
If that helps, then you've isolated your problem. It's entirely possible that I remember
the other threads wrong.
Remember, locally played videos, (USB or from LAN, but not WAN), are a new
feature for the Roku DVP.
It may take time for the Roku staff to isolate problems and fix them. The first step
is to reduce the problem to it's most simplest form. Then describe it for the Roku
staff.

Re: One hour rebuffering
I wish I was as optimistic as you, but this issue has been reported at least as far back as February. I would think if it was easy to fix it would have been fixed by now, so it's either something that is difficult/impossible to fix, a very low priority, or it is viewed as an encoder issue that doesn't require being fixed. Since I don't have a large video library and now know how to encode my videos, I don't see it as a big issue, but others would probably disagree. Until/unless Roku views the box as a home-streaming device, I doubt anything will happen.

Re: One hour rebuffering
This thread discussed the issue at length.
http://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=24743&start=30
It appears to be an audio interleave issue. But there was never a definative answer from the Roku development staff.
There was also a fix on the Chaneru discussion board.

Re: One hour rebuffering
The Chaneru fix was one I posted long before that post and has nothing to do with audio interleave. I'm not doubting your audio interleave statement, but you've posted conflicting reasons for the issue.

Re: One hour rebuffering
I have an issue with HD Hockey. It is unwatchable at 29 frame rate. My source is 60 fps. I can create a file with handbrake with all of the recommended settings with the exception of the frame rate and play it for about 2 minutes at a time. I get the reload screen and it replays about 5 seconds of what I just saw. It will do this sequence 3 times and then move on for another couple of minutes. So am I completely hosed? I can't watch hockey at lower frame rates, you can detect the missing frames. Any options?
