Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Before trying the wired option I wanted to push the success from yesterday a bit and see if I could shuffle a single artist folder that contained two album folders. Doesn't stop spinning the activity wheel. What I'm wondering is why the python log window shows it trying to reconcile "feeds" among the "media". Here's that log:

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Same behavior when wired. I think I'll try downloading and replacing the client side files.
Updates as they occur!

Replaced all files from a fresh zip and no difference.....

Are you using the private channel, or loading the channel in developer mode?

Thanks for trying the wired connection. This is just plain strange. The "/feed" entries are when it's requesting a folder. I would expect a lot of them because there isn't really any intelligence there on the client side. It doesn't know how many subfolders there are, so it will request the first one, run through all of those songs, then pop back up a level and go to the next folder. The next folder could even be the same folder it just requested, but it doesn't really know that and will request it again. It's all the /media entries I don't really understand. I think that's the box prefetching the images for each song, but I'm not really sure. I'll have to look into that.

You keep doing experimenting on your end and I'll try a few things here.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I'm using the private channel. I just wondered if the files on my PC had somehow gotten goofed up (maybe a false positive in antivirus quarantining or removing a file, or a program altering one). It was a stretch but I swapped them out and nothing improved.
I also saw on the Roksbox forum that someone had an issue with song titles with leading or all numbers (like Van Halen 5150.mp3). The program had a problem sorting, and got confused with mixed numerals/letters. I went through my entire 4,600 song collection and removed any of those (fifty one fifty.mp3). Didn't matter evidently.
I've been listening to it most all day, but can only play a album over and over, or a playlist (odd that those work?).
I love a good puzzle (you have to with a PC).

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I love a good puzzle, too. We'll figure this out yet. I'll have a special channel for you to try by tomorrow.

One more thing I thought about. I noticed your music is on J:. Is that a network drive? I've noticed decreased performance on network drives. It still works, but everything seems to be noticeably slower.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

No J: is just an internal harddrive. BUT this morning I tried to eliminate the embedded art as the culprit, removing all cover.jpg from an artist with three albums. Shuffling works now on that artist folder. So......?

Oh come on! I just tried another artist folder, with three sub folder albums, all with embedded cover art and it shuffled fine!!!
Seems that I could not get anything to shuffle until I removed cover art from one artist, shuffle played those, then all seems to be back to normal. How can that be?
Might just need to lock this one away for future troubleshooting (face east, swing dead cat over head, repeat these words....)

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Dude....

killer script, killer channel. Took a total of about 25 minutes to get it up and running streaming from a windows media server box (although technically I'm double servered, as I'm using another machine to run Python at the moment. )

No issues whatsoever running from the roku to computer A, then over the network to the server where the files are located. Only issue I'm having is I can't get the command window to hide but that should be an easy fix!

Time to do some digging to see if I can run python on top of WHS

Did you try putting it back to see if it still works? This is too funny. I sent you a PM with a link to a slightly modified channel. If you ever get shuffling to fail again, try that one.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I did replace the album art and everything works as it did before. Almost like the thing was baffled and jumbled up until it had a simple task to perform, then it straightened out. I was able to shuffle anything afterwards. I had randomly selected an artist to remove the art from, but then thought that maybe in that folder was the offending culprit, but I had tried shuffle on a number of different folders so that was a stretch.
Thanks for going through this puzzle with me. Maybe we learned something?

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

I am satisfied with current MyMedia setup but I wanted to play some specific Youtube videos (URL) via MyMedia. Is that possible?

I know there is a Youtube channel and I can add to my favourites, playlist and do that, but just wanted to know whether the current MyMedia code supports or not.
