This is horrible for playing video. I can't get any video to work. I've converted, reconverted.. everything I know to do but can't get it to play any video. Plays music fine.. but video is a no go.

I've been using it for months, with no video problems. How are you converting/encoding?

I've used handbrake with all sorts of settings including those found in this 70+ page thread and nothing has worked. I go into the program on my Roku and into the Video folder and It shows the video files but when I choose one to play, it tries to load and then stops.. the little white progress bar loads about an inch, then returns back to files. I've tried so many things to get it to work I just finally stopped even trying so since I can only get music files to play, that's all I use this channel for.

That's not really possible. It's only two presses of the remote.

sourbear, it sounds like you may not have the right version of the server. Try to get it from here.

If you think you do have the right version, try this video and see if it works.

I uninstalled the old version I had sometime last year and re-installed the latest version thinking that may would fix the video issue for me but it didn't. I'll try that video and report back...

When I tried to play the file you linked to, it made my Roku reboot...

OK, apparently even the "new" version I installed this week was older than the one you linked to? So I installed it and not it's wanting me to go to rokumm.appspot.com to register it with the code it gave me on the screen. I did that but it never would accept the registration. It just sat there and the only option it gave me was to cancel registration and even choosing that didn't do anything, I had to hit the home button on my remote to get out of it. Go back in it and it still asks me to register it but has given me a different code than it did the first time. Tried to register again but same problem...

EDIT: OK, I got it to work, including your video file and several others I had already encoded when trying to get video to work many times before. Some video doesn't play still but I think that's an encoding issue. Is there a way to take a video file that does work and check out its properties so I can use them to encode all video files?

I'm glad to hear you're making progress! You can use MediaInfo to get all kinds of information on a video file. You might want to check out the Encoding for the USB channel thread. Anything that works for that should work here. There's also another free video converter, Freemake, that some people recommend for encoding for the Roku. There's a thread about it here.

Excellent stuff JT. Thank you.

Any instructions on setting a photos folder? All I seem to be able to set are music, video and streams.
