Live Smooth Stream Request Frequency

We have a number of live content channels that are delivered via Smooth Streaming. We find If there is a blip in the stream and the Roku catches up the current segment it aggressively tries to grab the next segment which may not exist yet. If helpful I have a log of requests which shows this behavior. My question is can we control the frequency with which the Roku attempts to fetch the next segment?

You need to write the segment before updating the m3u8 with the url that refers to that segment.

Smooth Streaming doesn't use m3u8 files.
