International Update

International Update
You may have seen Roku’s announcement in May that DISHWorld IPTV (dishworldiptv.com) was bringing their service and international content to Roku. Going forward, DISHWorld will be our exclusive partner for the distribution of international content in North America. We believe that this relationship with Dish will result in a greater variety of content as well as higher quality content for our users as well as better results for owners of international content. However, as a result of the exclusive arrangement, many existing international or foreign language channels will be migrated off of the Roku platform in the coming days and weeks. We have been in contact with developers and owners of these affected channels to help ease the transition and avoid cutting users off that may have paid for a content provider’s service. Going forward, if you submit a channel for North American channel stores that has international or foreign language content, we will likely direct you to reach out to DISHWorld (ottpartner@dish.com) to discuss your content and channel with them. We suggest that if there is any question about your current or proposed channels, please contact us at partners@roku.com to discuss.
To help avoid confusion related to the above exclusivity, we have also updated the Developer Agreement to require written permission before uploading any channels featuring foreign language or international content. You can always find the latest version of the agreement on the Developer Site under Developer Resources.
