DEPRECATE, DEPRECATE, DEPRECATE!!!!

https://www.cordcuttersnews.com/hulu-is ... u-players/
"Yesterday Hulu started to email owners of older Roku players notifying them that Hulu is ending support for some Roku models. The Roku players Hulu is ending support on are mostly Roku’s sold in before 2014."

Roku is allowing this? Now how about the rest of us?

Re: DEPRECATE, DEPRECATE, DEPRECATE!!!!

They're drawing a good line that makes sense. They're cutting off:
- Roku LT (2400) Nov 2011
- Roku LT (2450) Apr 2012
- Roku HD (2500) Apr 2012
- Roku 2 HD (3000) Jul 2011
- Roku 2 XD (3050) Jul 2011
- Roku 2 XS (3100) Jul 2011
- Roku Streaming Stick, MHL (3400, 3420) Oct 2012
- Roku LT (2700) Sep 2013
- Roku 1, SE (2710) Sep 2013
- Roku 2 (2720) Sep 2013
So basically anything Sep 2013 and older, with the exception of the mighty Roku 3 4200 from Mar 2013.
Of the remaining supported models, the weakest are:
- Roku Streaming Stick, HDMI (3500) Mar 2014
- Roku Express (3700) Oct 2016
- Roku Express+ (3710) Oct 2016
- Some older Roku TVs

Re: DEPRECATE, DEPRECATE, DEPRECATE!!!!

I agree 100%
it is a good line that Roku themselves should've drawn as part of the RSG mandate.  Why is Hulu allowed to do this whereas other media companies are not?  Obviously because they are Hulu, but wouldn't it be nice if everyone had the power to draw their own lines on what devices their public store app will support? Ok well not really but how about if Roku would simply deprecate devices that make miserable us developers, and, I'd imagine end users as well!

At my job we asked and begged (due to things like https://forums.roku.com/viewtopic.php?f ... 3&p=583939 ).  But the low end devices were still required to be supported in order for certification in the public store.
