Adaptive Streaming with Multiple Resolutions

We are in the process of finishing our first Roku channel. Our media is encoded with H.264 and Smooth Streaming. We can also dynamically package to HLS. While according to the guide we have all of the video encoding correct our developer is reporting back that the video is throwing a file not valid.

The only thing I can think of is that our adaptive stream encoding setup also included multiple resolutions on each of the bit rates. They are all the same aspect ratio (16:9), but some are higher going to lower resolution as the bit rate decreases. While this is working with every other player we have used, Silverlight, JW Player, using Flash and HTML5, this seems like it might be the problem with the Roku player.

Will Roku fail to play if the adaptive bit rates have different resolutions? Is there any other way to test our stream and get more information if this is not the case?

We are trying to avoid re-encoding our entire catalog which is extensive, so it will be somewhat pricey and rather time consuming, so we would greatly appreciate any help.

One last question, is there any paid developer support available from Roku?

Thank you,

Justin

Re: Adaptive Streaming with Multiple Resolutions

We resolved another issue and now we are having no issues streaming. So it appears we have answered our own question and that Roku does support multiple resolution in the different bit rates.

Thank you,
