remote volume-up button goes to maximum involuntarily

Jump to solution

New problem with Roku Enhanced Voice Remote  (Model RC506; rtn.4228)

Pressing the side volume UP button, just once, sends the volume flying up to maximum, as if we were holding the button depressed (which we aren't.)

This is new. Worked normally for years. Nothing sticky has ever been spilled into the volume-up-down button area, and the UP button itself does not stick in place when depressed, but pops right up as normal.  Remote is kept dust-free in a clean drawer.

Just about to order a replacement, since they are not terribly expensive, but first, wanted to ask here if others have encountered and there is a simple solution.

First thing to try is to restart your Roku. [Note: If you have a Roku TV with "Fast TV Start" enabled, turning it off/on just puts it in/out of a standby mode and does not give you a full restart.]

Depending on your Roku model you'll find the "System restart" option under "Settings > System > Power" or if you don't have a "Power" option, under "Settings > System".

If a restart doesn't do it, or if you don't have sufficient control with the remote to navigate the Roku menus, you can also restart by pulling the power plug to the Roku for a few seconds then plugging it back in and waiting for it to restart.
