Re: The star button doesn't open settings on remote or app

Jump to solution

Hi @OuijaGG,

Thank you for your post in the Roku Community!

We appreciate your feedback and would like to provide some clarification regarding your inquiry.

To begin, pressing the star (*) button five times on your Roku remote will enable or disable the screen reader feature on your device. Additionally, if you press the star button once while watching content in an app or channel, a menu will appear with options to adjust the settings for that specific app or content feature.

It is important to note that some apps have their own individual settings menus, which may influence the accessibility features available. As such, your experience may vary based on the app you are utilizing.

We hope this information proves helpful. If you have any further questions or require additional assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks,
Jharra

Thank you to whoever said to try the Netflix app instead! It didn't work in Netflix, but I finally got the options menu open in Prime Video and was able to adjust picture settings.

I must've gone through 15 threads on this same exact issue and Roku reps were absolutely zero help in any of them. Please investigate this issue, Roku!!

I have the same problem. It worked until recently, i usually use it for sleep timer. it doesn’t work on the home screen or in any of the apps. Seems to be an issue with a recent update, though I don’t know which one

Hi there! @taj5000

Thanks for bringing this to us!

Here’s a quick reminder: The star (*) button only functions within apps or when you are actively watching a show to access the settings. Be sure to highlight the app first before pressing the star button to open the additional options. If you press it simultaneously while on the home screen, the screen reader will be activated. I hope this helps!

Cheers!

I know that. It no longer works. It did until recently. I have to exit everything and go to settings from the home screen to set a timer.

It would be helpful if you read posts instead of replying with nonsense. I’m now convinced that this forum is moderated solely by a useless AI and that Roku will do nothing to respond helpfully or effectively
