TV won’t respond to Roku remote

I purchased a new Roku Streaming Stick 4k and attached it to a Vizio Model E600i-B3 TV which was purchased in Dec 2014.  When the tv wouldn‘t respond to the Roku remote, I assumed there was something wrong with the remote and exchanged it for a new one.  The tv still wouldn’t respond.  The batteries are good and there is only one HDMI port to use.  Not sure if I am doing something wrong.  Should the Roku work with a 9 year old tv?  Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Re: TV won’t respond to Roku remote

Did you set up the remote following the procedure under Settings->Remotes & devices->Remotes->[Voice remote]->Set up remote for TV control?

Re: TV won’t respond to Roku remote

I am having what I think is the same problem. During the initial unit setup, the tv will not respond to the simple remote with brand new fresh batteries and a clear line of sight to the infra-red sensor at all EXCEPT for power on/off. Since the “OK” button on the simple remote invokes no response from the tv at all, I cannot get past the “Let’s get started” page. I cannot select the language, so I cannot do any setup, including pairing the remote, which remote, again, the tv seems to recognize, as the power on/of function works perfectly.

So, how does a user complete the setup when the remote is not fully functional? Note, as like the previous poster, I too went and purchased a second remote, thinking the first might be defective. I also tried the remote from my other Roku R6 Series tv. No response.

@Gardoglee

Roku simple remotes do not control Roku tv's at all. The only Roku remotes Roku sells that will control a Roku tv are wifi voice remotes. If you need a replacement Roku TV IR remote you will have to get it from the TV manufacturer, not Roku.

The quickest way to get the Roku up and running is go to your local Walmart or Best Buy and get voice remote, or a cheap universal remote that lists Roku tv's on package.
