Remote not pairing with the Roku Device

Jump to solution

I have a new Roku Express 4K. The remote will not pair with the Roku device. I have taken batteries out, unplugged and restarted many times. The only thing that shows up is the Pair your remote screen. Very frustrated. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi @Dana476

Thanks for reaching out to the Roku Community.

We can see that you have a simple remote, to resolve issues with your Roku simple remote, start by looking for visible obstructions.

Here are a few tips to ensure a clear path from your remote to your streaming device:

  • Always be sure you can see the front of your Roku device. When the device is powered on, you should see the status light on the front of the device.
  • Test your remote from various positions. Try holding your remote higher (e.g., above your head) and pointing it downwards at the front of your Roku streaming device.
  • Do not hide your streaming player. If your streaming player is attached to your TV with the included adhesive strip, move it to a position where the signal is less likely to be blocked.

You may also want to test it by looking at the front of the remote through a digital camera. If you see a flashing light in the camera view, then the remote is working. If there's no flashing light, the remote has failed.

Does this help the issue you are seeing? If still no luck, keep us posted along with the serial number of your Roku device. Each Roku player has its serial number or device ID printed on the bottom or back of the product.
