Hi! I got on the cruise ship and forgot my remote. Managed to use one phone as a hotspot with the previous WiFi credentials, managed to connect the Roku streaming stick to it, managed to connect with a second phone as a remote. Managed to change the WiFi to the ship's WiFi, changed my phone with the Roku App to the ship's WiFi, but now the app cannot find the stick. I could toggle the guest mode on and off using the app, but other than that, the app doesn't find it.
The ship's Wi-Fi is probably set up so that connected devices can't communicate with each other. If you could connect to your Roku device, so could everyone else on the ship.
That makes sense. However, when I searched for my device, another Roku device showed up, which I know it's not mine.
That's interesting. I'm just guessing here, but it could be that the ship has multiple networks and your phone is connected to one and the stick is connected to a different one. I'm not a networking expert, so I don't know if that's possible if they're both connected to the same SSID/Wi-Fi network name. I was going to suggest looking at the IP addresses assigned to your phone and stick, but without a working remote that's not possible.
