I have an older Sony Smart TV (model number NSX-46GT1, probably purchased around 2011) and the initial set up with Roku went smoothly last week. However, the first thing you must do with the tv when you turn it on is arrow over to the 'live tv' icon to watch cable or streaming channels, and the Roku remote won't do it, and the keyboard remote for the Sony tv no longer functions with the Roku paired to the tv. I tried plugging and unplugging various HDMIs (cable box, blueray player, the keyboard remote's port) and nothing happened. The cable remote can still get the tv input box to pop up on the screen but you can't arrow down to select anything. Any suggestions??
Roku remotes only control tv power, volume, and mute!! Nothing else, no input, no cursor commands, nothing else. Sorry.
Is there a way to get the keyboard remote to work, too? Or does this mean I can’t use Roku with this tv?
I don't know what this keyboard remote is? If your Roku isn't a stick, what is the model number of the Roku? You can purchase an aftermarket universal remote only if your Roku accepts IR commands, Sticks don't.
With the ROKU controller, you are going to click on apps over on the ROKU site to play things on your TV, rather than use the “smart” part of your tv. To do that, you will need the remote that came with your tv, But, that shouldn’t be a problem. I have a 3 year old or so Sony Bravia, and I watch everything by choosing apps I loaded to the ROKU area. When you are over there, you will readily see how to load new ones. It is easy.
Try clicking the up arrow in the upper right on your ROKU remote. That should take you over to the ROKU screen and display your apps.
