I don't want to have to reset the system and have to enter all of my passwords again. This is ridiculous.

I'd be happy to suggest some steps to help you utilize your physical Roku remote again.
Kindly try rebooting your Roku player this remote is connected to by navigating to your Home screen. Scroll up or down to select Settings > System > Power (skip if unavailable) > System restart. If the issue persists, I recommend resetting your physical Roku remote directly.
To reset your remote, press and hold the Back and Home buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds. After doing so, pair it again to see if this makes any difference.
