Re: Emerson TV 32" led, lcd, hdtv & Roku express+ 4k no volume or on/off help pls

@Erh4a, I have an almost identical TV (I can only see LF501EM6 before the mounting bracket covers the rest) and my Ultra automatically identified it as a Funai brand.  Given that you can't get two different remotes to work I'd say there's a chance that the IR receiver in the TV doesn't work.  Perhaps that's why it was given to you.  Did your friend tell you that the original remote no longer works?

This very well could be the case… how would I resolve this issue? Other than that the TV works fine, so it’s unfortunate something so small would ruin a good tv. Also, my friends gave it to me because he wasn’t using it, he had this issue with it too but it didn’t bother him as much as it does me.

@Erh4a, without a working remote, it may be hard to determine if that's the problem, but the receiver is right by the power light at the bottom center.  Try going through the process of setting up the remote for TV control with the remote very close to the sensor or try the universal remote with Emerson or Funai codes very close to the TV.  If you don't get any kind of response, it could be dead.  Short of taking the TV apart, there's not much you can do.

My TV supposedly supports CEC control, but I can only get the Roku device to control its power and not its volume.  I've never tried to update the TV and I don't know if any are available.  Go through the Menu using the buttons on the back (it's a pain, but it's possible) and make sure "fun-Link control" under "Features" is set to On and then try the "Set up remote for TV control" again using the "CEC setup" option.  CEC, even if it works, will only get you so far.  You'd still have to use the buttons on the back to change to a different source or to change antenna channels.

For what it's worth, I often use the buttons on the back to control my TV, but not having volume/mute control would admittedly be undesirable.  At least this TV has  individual buttons.  I have a TV with one button and it's a real pain to do anything.

The only other option to get volume control is to use a separate soundbar (my TV only has a digital coax output, no ARC or optical).  The Roku remote can't control soundbars, but your universal remote may be able to.

Another option if you only want to use the TV for streaming is connecting a Roku Streambar.  It's not cheap, but the Roku remote would pretty much do everything you need.

Good luck!
