3/16/22

Thank you all for responding. and suggestions.

I have tried all suggestions.

No luck. Last I tried making sure CEC was turned on.

Very furstated. Last TV was 28 yrs old and Roku Express+ 4K  worked fine on old TV.

Still unable to use one remote for newer TV .No volume, or on or off buttons. Voice command channel search works.

Thanks again.

No, it wouldn't matter if it was used on an older tv model. What matters is than you could chose tv brands in the menu, unlike now where some like can';t chose a brand at all.

So did you get a hold of younger person with cellphone hotspot? You can't rule everything out until you at least try a hotspot. Take it to a neighbors or friends house, try their internet just to program the tv brand in.

Re: Emerson TV 32" led, lcd, hdtv & Roku express+ 4k no volume or on/off help pls

No, just plug it in to their tv via hdmi input, the remote controls the roku without any trouble right? Just use it to connect to their internet. Now go to:

settings> remote & devices> remote> remote in USE> program tv>

First try programming it for their tv if it works its a good chance you can reprogram it at your house using your internet. If not:

If you get tv brands available, and they don't have the same brand as yours, just select your brand try the first one, tell it yes. Take it back to your set, see if it works. Keep doing this skipping the first and subsequent codes that didn't work.

How do you connect it then? I don’t have a universal remote, only the Roku remote and the buttons on the tv.

@Erh4a, you haven't given us enough information.  Are you trying to set up a Roku device on your TV and you don't have a remote for the TV?  If so, you need to use the buttons on the TV to select the input that you've connected the Roku device to.  The Roku remote, assuming it has TV controls, can only control the power and volume of the TV.  If you don't have a remote for the TV you'll need to use the buttons on the TV to change inputs.

Re: Emerson TV 32" led, lcd, hdtv & Roku express+ 4k no volume or on/off help pls

My Roku device is already connected and set up to the TV, the Roku remote works other than the on/off and volume buttons. They worked perfectly on my Vizio tv.

I recently received an Emerson TV (model LF501EM5F) from a friend and I'm having trouble connecting both a universal remote and my Roku remote. I’ve tried every code I could find online, but I can't get it to connect to the TV. The Roku remote works with the Emerson TV, but the on/off and volume buttons do not function. The Roku remote worked perfectly on my previous Vizio. I understand that the Roku remote pairs with the Roku device through Wi-Fi and that the TV controls (power, volume) require different codes. I’ve contacted both Emerson and Roku support but haven’t received any helpful responses.

The universal remote will not connect to the TV. I care more about the Roku remote than the universal one, I don’t know how to connect it. When I try to go to settings, devices & remotes, and link it that way, it never registers or pops up.

I was on Roku support chat box for hour an hour last night and they couldn’t figure out the issue or what I was trying to explain. They suggested a new Roku all together but it doesn’t make sense when 30 minutes prior it was working just fine on the Vizio and still does. It’s not a tv/roku issue, it’s just connecting the Roku remote and universal remote to the tv issue.

I hope this helps, sorry for the long explanation, I just want to be as clear as possible.
I heard/seen

@Tiboburkee

helpful in these situations. since other people have have the same issue with the Emerson TV

Re: Emerson TV 32" led, lcd, hdtv & Roku express+ 4k no volume or on/off help pls

@Erh4a

In the title of the thread, it lists express+ 4k, but you didn't start the thread. And then you have Premiere 4620 listed in your signature, what model do you actually have? The 4620 didn't come with remote with TV IR on board, nor a tv power key. It did have volume for headphone jack, and it controlled certain models of tv brands by cec only.

As for the Emerson tv if Emerson codes don't work in the universal remote, try the Sylvania tv codes as well. When Emerson/Sylvania switch to a code no brand ever used before and so it wasn't preset into any oem or universal remote. It took two or three years for it finally show up in other remotes released after that. Of course this was about ten years ago. 🙂
