Hi @mg4499,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

We’re excited to assist you with your question about the back button on your Roku remote. Let’s clarify any questions you may have and provide you with all the information you need!

Check out the image below for a clear breakdown of how it works.

BACK BUTTON:

tempsnip.png

  • While on your Channel's home screen:

    • You can easily leave your Channel by utilizing the Back button on their remote.
  • During video playback:

    • Exit video playback and return to the referring screen (E.g., Content details page).
    • Exit a popup dialog, simply press the Back button. Please note that the Back button is not intended for navigating from a screen to a popup dialog.

Moreover, we are pleased to inform you that your Roku remote features a convenient replay button for your ease of use.

INSTANT REPLAY/SKIP-BACKtempsnip.png

  • During video playback:

    • Auto rewind the video for 10–25 seconds and resume playback.
    • The amount of time required to rewind takes into account that you may need to reach for a remote, find, and then press the Instant Replay button.
    • Note that within the Roku settings, you can set Closed Captioning to be on during instant replay. The idea here is that most people skip back because they didn't hear what was said. Hence, when Instant Replay is pressed, the last 20 seconds are replayed with Closed Captioning on only during that replayed portion of the video.
  • During music playback:

    • Restart the current track from the beginning.

Hope you'll find this info useful. Let us know in case you still have any questions.

Thanks,
Jharra

Re: “Back” Why do I need at least 25 characters?

It has a back button (navigates back out of things) and a skip back button (go back in the video) but no dedicated previous channel button.  (And for that matter no channel number buttons. I would guess these would be added around the same time if Roku decides that numbered channels are a big deal.) Some channel-oriented apps have used one of the existing buttons as "previous channel."

Banned but back. Because why not?

“Back” Why do I need at least 25 characters?

Jump to solution

When will Roku add a Back button?  Call it “Last Channel” if you like. Rep insists its that Left Arrow button. Nonsense.  I'm not sure techie but how tough can it be?  Add the Darn “Back” button!
