This is unacceptable. I'll happily roll my own solution and dispose of every roku product in the house if you think I'll wait to watch an ad simply for turning on the device. You're not irreplaceable, simply convenient. When that convenience runs out there is no point in keeping you around, supporting you, or recommending you to others.
No, moronic person who thinks this is a good idea. We're tired of you shoving ads down our throats. So yeah... you have until the end of this month to get rid of that **bleep** or I get rid of your product.
If this becomes permanent then this long-time customer is gone. You have crossed a line.
Corporate greed! If it keeps up, I'll replace all my Roku devices. We get enough ads from the streaming services.
Auto play advertisements are completely unacceptable. I will be replacing my devices if this advertising format continues.
So I just experienced my first "auto-play" ad on the home screen. Pressed the "home" button and a video ad for Moana started playing and it wouldn't let me navigate away from it. I am totally NOT a fan of something that I cannot click away. I'm perfectly fine with ads on the screen and in the screensaver and whatnot, but hijacking the home screen so that you can't even use it for several seconds is completely unacceptable. I contact3ed support and notified them that if this kind of behavior continues, I will be replacing all of my Roku TVs with Amazon Fire TVs.
Same, this was incredibly intrusive and annoying. The static adds are fine but I will 100% switch if they keep these autopay videos.
Yep, just got my 2nd popup ad on my Roku home screen. If this continues beyond my next trip to Costco or anywhere that sells TVs, it will be the last Roku device I ever own.
I greatly prefer the layout of my Chromecast devices anyway. I just appreciated the ease of Roku as a menu when I first purchased the TV, but it's not worth this and the other stuff they've been doing recently. I own my TV, not them.
I came here just to comment on this. Someone at Roku needs to take a course on brand loyalty.
NO NO NO! Roku you are going too far, you are embarrassing yourselves and cheapening your company and your brand. You are insulting your loyal customers. ABSOLUTELY NONE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT THIS. Roku should consider that every ad that they play like this is giving a free ad to Apple for their Apple TV 4K device.
This is enshtifcation, this is new coke, this is killing your $5 chicken, this is southwest ending free bags, this is Microsoft moving the start menu.
Stop screwing with the basic fundamental interface to place ads, ESPECIALLY on ROKU TVs where the interface is 100% required to be used.
Simply no Roku.
