I will throw my Roku out the window if you launch auto play ads on the home screen
I just saw an auto play ad for Moana when I turned on my Roku today.
I don’t need to put up with ads on my Roku home screen - I will choose any other product if you put auto play ads there.
Please rethink this “feature.”

Video/Audio Advertising Autoplays before Home Screen
Unacceptable.
Video/audio advertising that I have to take action to dismiss before getting to the home screen is unacceptable.
Stop it. You have 1 month before I yeet all my roku devices and you lose all the revenue you get from advertising & tracking me.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen
I will absolutely rip my Roku Ultra out and throw it in the trash if it forces *any* video or audio or *any* kind of content on me when it is turned on, or before I can go to the home screen, or launch a "channel", or start a stream. And I will stop recommending Roku to all my coworkers, friends, and family as well. So, Roku, think *very* carefully about just how dangerous this type of move will be to your brand. It is hard to gather a following and build a good name, but it is really easy to destroy it.
My life has been "ad free" for 30 years and I refuse to go back.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen
I receive this too. Roku told ArsTechnia it's just a test. My roku can remain unplugged until they decide to stop the test.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen
Count me in as another victim of this jarring full screen spam. I've been a vocal Roku proponent for years, but will dump them from every one of my (and my extended family's) household TVs if this is the experience going forward. I'll happily spend my money on a GoogleTV or an Nvidia shield instead.

Experiment or not, if this happens again I will trash everything Roku owned I have, post it on social media and email the links of such to news outlets.
Fv ck you Roku shareholders.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen
Yeah, I was absolutely NOT happy to see that. I have been a Roku customer since 2013, but if they keep this up, I'll just watch Antenna TV. I don't mind the static ads as they are minimal, but auto playing an ad is the line in the sand for me. Roku has been making some stupid decisions lately.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen
This happened to me this weekend. Keep it up, Roku. This is a one-way ticket to my Roku devices being thrown in the trash and their competitor devices purchased. This isn't ad innovation, this is pissing your loyal customers off.

Right there with you. Love Roku, but if they pull this bs permanently, then I am out, permanently.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen
Yep, the tv already has unacceptable lag. Add in ads when I just want to use a tv, and I'm done. No more roku products, I'll toss this in the trash, put some tv software on a raspberry pi and buy a dumb tv.
