Because a web browser is a useless app on a device without a keyboard and pointing device. Today's web sites are designed to use a mouse or touchpad for navigation. And it's been explained before that the Roku OS doesn't support adding external devices like that. They need to make the OS as lean as possible and they remove all functionality that doesn't improve streaming performance.
You obviously did not read what he said "dude"
Roku - stop telling people that they don't need what they want ... it's a sure fire way of losing market share. It would take little effort to include a web browser app ... so just do it. For me, Roku is becoming borderline useless. People who use Firestick don't complain about these things ... VPN, VLC, MXPlayer, etc are all available on a Firestick... so why am I using Roku?? Remind me again!
Get a firestick way better, has a browser and can use alexa. Roku is my last choice, that's why they sell them so cheap.

Are you a programmer with extensive knowledge of the Roku OS? If not, you have no clue of the effort needed, or if it's even possible. Roku uses a modified version of Linux to build their OS, and it's highly likely they have removed the pieces required to make a viable web browser. They have to remove much of the Linux core to keep the size of the OS within limits, and in doing so a browser might not be viable. And there's also a size limit for each app, and a browser that will display a modern web page likely would be too large.
You might want to stick with the old fashion newspaper or maybe take one of those computer classes for beginners. Those are probably your two best options judging by the frustration levels being displayed 🙂
I'm generally curious do you use your TV for all your internet use? or is that what you would like? I've just never seen a TV as a device that serves that purpose.
They've done research on this too and study's have shown that only a small small minority of people want an internet browser with their TV. Of all the TVs I've seen my friends have over the years not one use there TV to pursue the wild web. I have heard of people enjoy watching the high quality picture of adult videos using this feature but my guess is most use there phones.
I completely agree with CanadaGuy1978... Roku definitely need a browser app for the internet! No wonder I stay on my Amazon Fire Cube more than I do on Roku!! Please add an app that we can actually use. Instead of all these useless apps that you need a paid subscription to use. No one, unless they're rich will keep spending their hard earn money on all this useless apps!!
Knowing how to cast from my phone or iPad does not mean I automatically want to tie up my phone or iPad, which another family member wants to use BTW, when Roku could simply add an app for a browser. That was the request. We know how to cast. Thanks
I add a keyboard to my tv. It just plugs in. My new tvs use Bluetooth keyboards.
