When connecting my iPhone to my Roku Express 4K+ I have noticed some issues when establishing the connection. While I am able to eventually get it to work properly it requires some manipulation. When I first initiate Airplay from my iPhone it will attempt to launch the Airplay screen on the Roku, to which my pin has already been entered and saved. Airplay will then terminate on the Roku while my iPhone will continue trying to establish the connection. Stopping and starting Airplay again from my iPhone however many times will fail to operate. It isn’t until I fully restart the Roku and begin again that I can finally get Airplay to function properly.
The above takes place whether I am already on the Roku Home Screen or if I am using my iPhone and Airplay to wake the Roku and TV.
My Roku and iOS are up to date according to the relevant systems. I do not have this issue when using airplay on my TV, only the Roku.

It is the strangest thing that while the issues I described were happening on a daily basis, after I reported the problem it doesn’t seem to be occurring anymore. I will continue testing it out and if it happens then I will get the Tracker ID and post it here. I am experiencing a lot of lag with airplay though both audio and visual. Would it help to post a Tracker ID from when I am experiencing significant latency issues?
Thanks for the update, @Dvburnsii.
Sure! If you have observed that the issue will continue to persist, please feel free to provide a Tracker ID so we can take a closer look at it and pass it over to the appropriate team.
Looking forward to what you find out!
Cheers,
Emman
Okay so here is a Tracker ID during a period of audio and visual lag.
ID EM-489-661
The original issue I posted about still has not occurred after I submitted these problem reports but I will continue testing.
As far as the lag goes it happens regularly. An example is it may be fine for half an hour then all of a sudden begin lagging terribly for quite some time, I even have to terminate the Airplay session entirely and restart it to fix it most of the time. If I perform the same tasks on the iPhone without Airplay I do not experience these lagging issues.
Glad you got an update, @Dvburnsii.
Have you tried restarting your device after observing the Airplay lags to see if your Roku's performance improves significantly?
In the meantime, we'd be happy to pass this additional information to the appropriate Roku team for review.
Thanks for keeping in touch!
Cheers,
Emman
Oh yes, I have rebooted the Roku as well as my iPhone many times during my experiencing of these issues. There is no improvement.
Something else I am seeing happen is while I am connected to AirPlay if I attempt to adjust the volume with the Roku remote it registers too many inputs. As an example; If I am connected to Airplay and use the Roku remote for pressing volume up or volume down a single click, not holding, the volume will increase or decrease many times, such as from level 1-20 or 20-1 instead of 1-2 or 2-1. This seems to happen every time I connect to AirPlay for the first couple of times I attempt to adjust the volume and then ‘corrects’ itself for the remainder of my current AirPlay session.
Please let me know if this is hard to understand and I will try to clarify any details.
