hi- I have a brand new unopened Roku 3500eu stick. Is this still usable or is it outdated .

Thanks for your inquiry.

The Roku 3500x will continue to stream and receive critical updates, but will no longer get new features or streaming channels, updates to existing channels, or other software-related updates.

That device came out in 2014, so it is definitely outdated, though still usable (at 720p max).  I suppose it really depends on whether the question is: Free Roku vs No Roku, or: Would a newer model be better.  (For the latter, yes.)

Of course, there's no reason you can't dip your toes in with something you already have and upgrade later if you wish.
