Many years ago, Roku had a very family-friendly New Years Eve Countdown. It was a clickable video on the home screen. Why not do that again? Why not even EXPAND it and make it a few family-friendly hours, ending in the countdown?
We were also disappointed with Roku's offerings this year. We had much better luck with U-Tube. We paid around $5 to watch
I think you may have just installed a screensaver/channel by StormJam.

When I clicked over to the Roku coverage (New Years Eve Around the World) briefly from the Home Screen last night, it was providing coverage from ABC in New York as the ball was dropping in Times Square. Any special event/coverage advertised by Roku as being "available on the Roku Channel" is completely free to watch (never any charges).
