My mother recently switched to another Internet provider and now I cannot cast to YouTube or access the Roku app to type in the information I need to sign into apps. Chromecast was problematic at first, but then I was able to fix it. Not Roku.
Hi @Hanshot1st1138,
Thanks for keeping us updated!
We're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please be advised that to use casting, the supported app must be installed on both your mobile device and your Roku streaming device. You must also make sure to connect your phone or tablet to the same wireless network as your Roku device. For more details, you can check out this support article on how to cast apps like YouTube or Netflix from your phone to a TV. You can also try to restart your system by going to Settings > System > Power > System restart (if you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step) and see if it will fix the issue.
Please keep us posted on what you find out, and we'll be able to assist you further over there.
All the best,
Chel
Some routers have a security setting (which may be called "Client isolation") that prevents Wi-Fi connected devices from communicating with each other.
@Hanshot1st1138, it's a setting in the router, so assuming you can get to the settings (ISPs are making that harder and harder) you should be able to change it. However, I would think nothing would work if that was the problem, but I'm no expert on Airplay or casting. Who is her ISP? There was someone with a new router from Spectrum (I think) not too long ago that had to change a setting to get things to work. I don't want to lead you down the wrong path.
I turned off the “private WiFi network” settings in the settings app on my phone and then turned them back on. This HAS let me connect to the Roku app, but I still can’t cast to YouTube like I could with my old WiFi network.
