Using HomePod minis as speakers for Hisense Roku TV

Jump to solution

UPDATE: It works as long as you have 2nd edition or later of Apple TV 4K.
______________

How do you make Roku TV play on my HomePod minis thru my Apple TV 4K (1st edition)?

Roku support was abysmal. So I'm hoping to confirm I may need the 2nd edition or later of Apple TV 4K.

Hi @nycdesigner,

Thanks for the inquiry, and welcome to the Roku Community!

To make your Roku TV play audio through your HomePod minis using an Apple TV 4K, you need to ensure your Apple TV is connected to your TV using an HDMI cable plugged into the ARC (Audio Return Channel) port on your TV. Then, go into your Apple TV settings and select "Play Television Audio" to route the sound from your Roku (via Apple TV) to your HomePod minis through AirPlay; you may need to enable ARC on your TV settings as well.

Hope you'll find this helpful info. Let us know if you still have any questions.

Best regards,
John

Yes I’m aware of the cable setup. But specifically it merits a mention that it must be an Apple TV 4K 2nd edition or later. Older Apple TVs will not receive return audio from the Roku TV.
