My Roku Select uses ARC to connect to a Samsung sound bar. The sound bar is set up to power up and down automatically when the TV is turned on and off. This has worked perfectly for months - until today. Now, when I power up a box pops up on the main menu telling me the sound bar is a newly-connected device that needs to be named and set up. Actually naming and setting up the device doesn't stop the same box from coming up every time I power up. What's happening, and why did it start now?

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar
Hi @John-Mag,
Thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!
If your Roku TV prompts you to set up or rename a soundbar after it was previously set up, it likely means the connection has been lost, the soundbar has been disconnected and needs to be repaired, or there might be an issue with the TV's audio settings.
Hope you'll find this info useful.
Best,

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar
It's not a Roku sound bar, but an older-model Samsung.
All other aspects of the audio setup are working as always. No TV audio configuration changes, audio is set up to use ARC. Swapped the HDMI/ARC cable, behavior is the same. Sound bar plays audio and TV remote controls volume using ARC correctly.
I can live with having to close the pointless setup box once in a while, but it's just a weird issue.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar
I've had a similar issue start happening in the last week or so.
I've got some game consoles on HDMI 2 and 3 on my TCL Series 5 Roku TV on software version 14.1. I also have a ARC A/V receiver on HDMI 4.
Recently, anytime I power on either game console I get the popup asking me to setup a new device. This occurs even if the TV hasn't been powered off since the last time the console was turned off and the on again.
I also unplugged the receiver to fully power cycle it and got them same message.
If I put the devices into a standby mode instead of full powering them off, I don't see the message.
I tried fully removing the input after unplugging a console, and then re-adding it. I would expect the new device message just once when re-adding the device, but as before it continues to happen each time the drive is powered on.
It seems like a full power off is triggering similar behavior to removing or disconnecting a device.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar
I noticed the issue yesterday, but since it appears on the main menu screen and the TV goes to cable TV on power-up, it may have existed a bit before that.
The SAME THING happens with my Blu-Ray player.
What's REALLY odd is that Settings / Software update says my last software update was on 1/7/25. Details: Roku TV Model 50R4AX, hardware ID G846X, software version 14.1.
Any hints on sending a video? I'm using a laptop for this reporting and transferring a video file from my phone is a hassle.

Falsely saying I’ve connected a new device
Whenever I turn on a device connected through HDMI now, a notification blocks the screen saying “We noticed you connected a new device to HDMI (number). What do you want to name it?” Despite the fact that I haven’t connected a new device or unplugged the current one, and this wasn’t happening for years until just now.
Does anyone have any idea what could be going on, or more importantly just how I can stop this annoying notification from popping up everytime?

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar
I am attaching a photo of the sound bar prompt box. Once it comes up, a few seconds after powering everything up, it remains until cleared. A video probably wouldn't add much.

Re: TV keeps asking me to set up sound bar
I can confirm that is the same prompt I see when turning on a device.
