P.S. Since we last wrote you, we've had a breakthrough. After we turned off the power entirely and turned it on again, we went to the Roku screen and saw three images of a Roku remote. The back of it is off, and the batteries are visible. The number :05 is circled. We pressed the indicated button, and were able to get a START page. After that, we followed the instructions. It took a while, but eventually we were able to set up our Roku again.
As I mentioned at the beginning, this problem started abruptly when we were in the middle of watching a show. Is there any way to prevent this from happening again in the future?
Thanks for keeping us posted, @Wm59
The process you went through was the pairing of your Roku remote to your Roku streaming device. This prompt will only occur whenever you're setting up your device and pairing your Roku remote to it.

You might want to go back to your previous reply and edit it to remove the large number of empty lines at the end. Access via the three vertical dots in the upper right corner of your post. I didn't even see Tash's reply below all the blank space at the bottom of yours.
I don't know what could cause what you experienced. Whatever it was caused your Roku to crash plus lose its pairing to your remote. I suspect perhaps it was a random event like a power spike. Fortunately since you've got it working again, it seems it wasn't permanently damaged, whatever the cause.
