Re: Suddenly no sound from soundbar, HDMI ARC and CEC stopped working

I did return the TV and purchased a Samsung instead. No problems with the Soundbar though not intuitive how to default to the Soundbar versus the TV for volume, but at least I know it works! Thanks for the input.

I do think the problem is the Roku app and how it's updated.

The workaround I discovered is to plug all accessories directly into the soundbar and not the smart TV. Apparently, the Roku app no longer likes to see other devices connected to the TV in which it resides.

Remove all HDMI cables except the soundbar from the back of the TV. Plug those instead into the soundbar and reboot everything. My soundbar, TV, and the other connected devices are working like normal.

It was working... now it doesn't!  Has nothing to do with the cable if it was working!

It's not a problem with the soundbar in my opinion. I had the same problem with two different soundbars of different brands.

The problem is the Roku app either residing in a Smart TV or perhaps as a Roku accessory. If that app updates or changes, problems ensue. Bad Roku programming.

Plugging ONLY a soundbar into my TV fixed the problem; all other peripherals plug into the soundbar. Shouldn't have that restriction, but Roku imposed it.

I also have a TCL TV and this issue started as soon as I plugged and HDMI switcher into the TV. Once I unplugged it, the TV recognized my soundbar again.

Hello, Roku Community!

Just a quick note: all our Roku TVs, except for the Roku Plus and Roku Pro Series, are set up to support just one audio output at a time. So, they can’t connect to multiple audio sources at once. We truly value your feedback and will take it into account as we strive to make our products even better. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

I hope this answers your questions. Cheers!

I'm not sure what a "Roku TV" is, but the TV I was having problems with is manufactured by JVC. It was made with the Roku app that automatically boots. The JVC TV features various ports that can support multiple device connections.

With my TV, the problem is that the embedded Roku app interferes with the soundbar if multiple inputs are made directly into the TV. It's fixed by inputting these devices to the soundbar.

I've repeated this enough times to know that's the fundamental problem. And it's a problem with the Roku app, not the TV or soundbar specifically. The TV hardware is a "dumb" device, and my problem was reproduced with more than one soundbar. As I said, bad Roku programming.

You could be very well correct.  I don't know the age of your TV's that you had problems with... but mine are older TV's.  Roku doesn't openly advertise that the quit supporting older TV's.  Both of mine are older than 6 years.  Remotes will no longer connect when you listen to the music ... when you are supposed to click when the music stops.  If Roku had any real competition... they wouldn't get away with this!  I bought programmable remotes to bypass the biggest problem, which is the need for multiple remotes (Soundbar, TV, DVD player, etc).  I know that there are millions of TV's out there... but I also know that the codes that make a TV workable on Roku are minimal.  Praying that a new company brings long needed competition to Roku!

My TV is pretty new, less than five years old. The issue is with the Roku programming. Nothing else has changed.
