So I picked up a RokuTV at Target for Black Friday and I noticed that there was zero component cable connections. I still own a VCR.

So I dug out an HDMI converter to get a picture running on this thing and now the picture is permanently squashed to fit the screen. I went through the options, but there doesn't seem to be a 4x3 ratio option. I looked into scalers, but i don't think I should have to buy yet another peice of tech just to have this thing display the picture correctly.

You need a AV to HDMI converter that has an aspect ratio switch, like https://www.amazon.com/AUTOUTLET-Converter-Aspect-Ratio-Switch/dp/B0D46X9Y6J -- the earlier cheap models always stretched the signal to 16:9, and Roku TVs don't have a "shrink" picture mode, just "stretch" and "fill".
