Roku has started having audio that it's not had before.

Jump to solution

Last night there was an update - I assume it was Roku. After the update, then there's a voice telling me what show/movie I'm watching on what channel. When the ads come on, it tells me that I'm watching ad 1 of 6 (and says that for every single ad that comes up). When I'm at the main menu or home screen of Roku, it tells me how many streaming channels I have, etc etc. Can't even really hardly understand the voice.  HOW DO I SHUT THAT OFF??? It's really annoying and distracting. Thanks!

Hi @Renee79,

Thank you for reaching out to the Roku Community!

We see you're having issues with your Roku device and are here to help. It appears that your text-to-speech screen reader or audio guide might have been turned on accidentally. Please try turning it off manually to see if that resolves the issue.

Here are the steps to turn off the screen reader:

  • Press the Home button on your Roku remote.
  • Navigate to Settings > Accessibility > Screen Reader.
  • Set the option to "Off".

Note: To toggle the screen reader on or off using shortcuts, press the asterisk (*) button four times.

Let us know if this resolves the problem for you!

Thanks,
Jharra
