ONN Roku tv goes dim on darker scenes

Jump to solution

I have an ONN Roku 50-inch TV, and while watching Netflix, whenever a scene is dark, my screen dims. Then, when the scene changes, it brightens back up. Sometimes, even in the same scene, if a character simply turns their head, the screen dims and then brightens again, which is really annoying. I’ve tried searching on YouTube and Google, but I can’t find anything helpful, nor do I see anything in the settings. If someone could help, I’d really appreciate it.

Hi, @HMorris.

Welcome and thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand that you're having an issue with the quality of the content you're watching. No worries, we're here to provide some steps you can try.

You may try changing the brightness on your TV through Picture mode.

Here's how:

  1. Press the Star button on your Roku remote to open the TV Settings menu
  2. Select Picture Settings
  3. Select Picture Mode
  4. Change the picture mode using the left and right buttons on your remote

You can choose from the following picture modes on all Roku TV models.

  • Auto: Automatically adjust your TV settings for what you’re watching
  • Low Power: Optimized to save energy. This is the default “out of box” setting
  • Standard: Good for everyday viewing in moderate to bright rooms.
  • Vivid: Intense and brilliant picture for use in rooms with a lot of light
  • Sports: Optimized for sports viewing where camera panning and action shots are common
  • Movie: Ideal for darker rooms to view the movie as the director intended

Furthermore, you may visit this support article on how to improve image quality using picture modes on your Roku TV system

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Reynan
