After updating to the latest version (14.04 Build 12221) of Roku on my TCL TV, the "Live TV" feature stopped working. It now shows "Live TV requires a network connection." where it used to show antenna TV channels.
This is a safety critical issue. I need to be able to receive emergency broadcasts from the government when the internet goes down. This software update has put my family in danger.
In Roku's infinite wisdom 🙄 they use the term "Live TV" to refer to both antenna TV and "live" TV on The Roku Channel. The latter requires an Internet connection. I believe there's two different icons that can be added to the Home Screen and they're different colors. See if you have both of them.
Update: I worked with support and they had me factory reset the TV. It seems that Live TV works fine if you never setup an Internet connection. Once you log in with a Roku account, they break the basic functionality of the TV.
For this reason it is recommended to never connect the TV into the Internet or use a Roku account. Use a different streaming solution like an Nvidia Shield. Then you can have both live TV and use streaming when the Internet works. This is the only way to be sure your TV will work in an emergency.
